A Different Ending

This series of tankas is in response to the
Carry On Tuesday - Prompt #93:
a line from Shakespeare’s best loved play, Romeo and Juliet
parting is such sweet sorrow

Juliet did say
Parting is such sweet sorrow
To sweet Romeo
But their love was not enough
To stave off fateful demise.

Now I say to you
Before you leave me lonely
You’re no Romeo
Life will go on without you
Love of self will walk in hope

Remember Shakespeare
But know your heart is leaving
Without loss to me
Moving to bright tomorrow
Parting is such sweet sorrow

  1. What a poignant, bittersweet poem. You used the prompt well, but I hope that you are not dealing with a painful time in real life (and are just writing convincing and compelling words.)
